PLEASE NOTE: The searchable information in these databases refers only to the 62 FEPOW who were interviewed as part of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine's FEPOW Oral History Study.
FEPOW, COUNTRIES, CAMPS: You can search for the names of FEPOW who were interviewed, the countries of their captivity, the camps they were held in. Each interviewee has a page containing brief biographical data and a sound clip extract from the interview; some of the FEPOW who have had close links with LSTM over the years will have additional biographical information.
SHIPS: You can also search for the transport and repatriation ships the interviewees recalled. The transport ships moved thousands of FEPOW around South East Asia to wherever the Japanese needed a labour force. Conditions on board these vessels were described by the men as being like slave ships. FEPOW gave these transports the name "hellships". This is not a definitive list of all transport ships but only those mentioned by interviewees. Similarly, the list of repatriation ships contains only those mentioned by interviewees. These ships brought FEPOW back home to Britain, to the ports of Liverpool and Southampton, in the autumn of 1945.
